This is a Baul song. The Bauls are wandering minstrels who roam the plains, mountains, forests and towns of Bengal in India. They are the mystic bards who have charmed and inspired millions of people for centuries. Garbed in rags of many colours and carrying a one -stringed lute, a pair of cymbals and with bells round the ankles, the Baul moves from village to village singing. The songs are about the Love dalliance of the cosmic lovers,in praise of the divine, the futility of worldly games, the metaphysical evolution of the Spirit and of the blissful state of estatic union. They are commonly known of as the "mad ones". “Straight” society sees them as stoned vagabonds who indulge in excess immorality. The Bauls call themselves "mad ones” because they are madly in bliss with the super-sensuous Lover.
